The Executive Mayor, Khunjuzwa Kekana, and councillors of the Cacadu District Municipality, recently hosted a delegation from the Shanxi Province in China. The purpose of the meeting was to enter into a memorandum of understanding to strengthen the linkages between the Shanxi Province and the Cacadu District Municipality, with particular reference to advancement in the health care industry.
The memorandum of agreement specified the promotion and establishment of strategic frameworks in order to advance medical and health care management, medical science and technology and medical education and training. It is believed that the agreement will, amongst other things, reinforce the mutual cooperation and exchange and jointly promote the development of medical and health care management in both Shanxi Province and the Cacadu District Municipality. Through the signing, both parties undertook to offer training opportunities for medical professionals and to facilitate the cooperation between medical institutes through the definition of joint programmes based on mutual consultation. As a result, medical education and training in both the Shanxi province and the Eastern Cape will be promoted and advanced.
Executive Mayor of the Cacadu District Municipality, Khunjuzwa Kekana, said, “The Cacadu District Municipality is honoured by the interest shown in the District by the delegation from Shanxi Province. It is our wish to reap the benefits of this agreement for our people and to learn as much as possible through training opportunities and the exchange of valuable experiences in the health care industry”.
The Honourable MEC for Health in the Eastern Cape, Sicelo Gqobana, attended the signing ceremony and addressed the delegation from China, expressing his genuine appreciation for giving further momentum to the advancement of the health care industry in the Eastern Cape.
The Cacadu District Municipality has twin city agreement in place since 2008 with the city of Jincheng, also located within the Shanxi Province.
